Regal Jumping Spider Care Guide
Please do not add a water dish! Your jumper could drown in it, and they will drink water from the sides of the enclosure when you mist.
It’s extremely important to ensure that any mist you use has very fine droplets so your spider can’t get stuck and drown. Moss or coconut fibre works well to keep the humidity up. Misting should be done every second day.
Jumpers are diurnal, so never put your spider in direct sunlight or they will overheat. A 10-12 hour LED light is strongly recommended as jumpers hunt throughout the day.
Food:
Keep the size of the prey about the same size or smaller than your spider.
Suitable food items include crickets, black soldier fly larvae, soldier flies, bottle fly larvae, and blue/green bottle flies.
Offer food 2-3 times a week, depending on the size of your jumper (sub-adults and adults once a week).
Molting:
Often, they will start to look plump and stop accepting food. They will also create a thick hammock. Rest assured, this is all normal behaviour.
Just keep misting daily to maintain humidity. This process can take days, sometimes even weeks, depending on the spider’s age.
Please do not poke or prod them during this stressful time, as this could cause them to mismolt.
Temperature:
Keep temperatures between 22-28°C. They typically prefer warmer temperatures, especially during moulting. It’s recommended to have a temperature gauge by your spiders’ enclosure.
Always wash your hands before handling a spider. Make sure you haven’t been around farms or other places where pesticides might have been sprayed.
