Armadillo officinalis (Greece) — “Hissing Isopod” Locale

The Greek locale of the hissing isopod is every bit as charming as it sounds — literally. When disturbed, they can produce a faint chirping or hissing noise, making them one of the few isopods you can hear as well as see. Their smooth, glossy shells range from soft grey to bluish tones, and their compact, rounded shape gives them a tidy, polished look. They prefer slightly drier conditions with good airflow, plus access to calcium-rich materials to keep those shells in top shape. A must-have for anyone who enjoys the more unusual side of the hobby.

Care at a Glance:

  • Temp: 20–26 °C (68–78 °F)
  • Humidity: Slightly drier with a small moist refuge
  • Diet: Leaf litter, decaying wood, veggie scraps, supplemental protein, calcium sources
  • Enclosure: Well-ventilated with both dry areas and a humid hide

Pack includes 12+ mixed-size isopods
